Cogeneration plants are divided into: general use cogeneration plants, whose main activity is electricity and heat production (NACE 2.red. Chapter acculab 35); company co-generation plants acculab that produce electricity and heat production and their technological needs and part of the heat produced is sold (NACE 2.red., excluding NACE 2.red. Chapter 35).
From 71 CHP plants in operation in 2010, has 56 general purpose CHP plants with installed capacity of 932.8 MW, which is 98.4% of the total installed acculab capacity of CHP plants, and 15 companies have CHP plants with installed capacity of 14.7 MW.

In June 2011, the CSB database (www.csb.gov.lv) the theme "Energy" in the annual acculab data. will be published in a series of tables for the operation of cogeneration units in 2010: Number of CHP plants, electric power, electricity and heat production (EN18); CHP plant breakdown by type of fuel consumed (EN20); Heat balance in statistical regions and cities (EN23); Company boiler and cogeneration plants heat produced by kind of activity (EN24); Company boiler and cogeneration plants of fuel consumed by kind of activity (EN25).
